For our next project, we were tasked with creating a short film or an animation based on an environmental issue.

To begin this project, we first had to decide on what our chosen environmental issue would be and what exactly we'd be creating. I decided on focusing on plastic pollution as my chosen topic as I felt it is definitely the one everyone has contributed to as well as the one with a lot of creative potential.

I knew immediately I wanted to create an animation as I am hoping to go onto an Animation undergraduate course and have a general interest in animation anyways so to begin my idea development, I decided to research animators who have tackled plastic pollution as a topic across their work.

I focused on stop motion animators as I don't have the technology to create any 2D animators in the 2 weeks we were given and found the following artists: Daria Kashcheeva (the left-hand image) and Paul Bush (the right-hand image).

Daria Kashcheeva's work, specially her piece 'STOP' which is where that image is from, interested me as it incited the idea in my mind of the plastic being a living entity, that moves and spreads across the World causing damage.

Paul Bush's work, specially his 'Orgiastic Hyper-Plastic' piece which is where that screencap is from, also caught my eye as I just loved how he used colour within his work to create such a captivating animation. The range of colours helped bring the piece to life and worked effectively in conveying his point in a way that was educational but still entertaining.
